Saint Peter’s Original Documents

The founding papers of St Peter’s, Château-d’Œx survive in the parish archive and are reproduced here. Together they record the building and consecration of the church between 1899 and 1902.

  • Petition to the Bishop of London — the Colonial and Continental Church Society’s petition to Arthur Foley, Bishop of London, asking that the new church be consecrated by the name of St Peter. The document is undated, but was written between the building of the church in 1899 and its consecration in 1902.
  • Commission from the Bishop of London — the letter of 10 May 1902 by which Arthur Foley, Bishop of London, commissioned the Rt Revd Thomas Edward Wilkinson, Anglican Bishop of North Europe, to consecrate the church on his behalf.
  • Consecration Document — Bishop Wilkinson’s deed of 27 May 1902 formally consecrating St Peter’s, Château-d’Œx.
